Training & Initiation

We provide one-on-one training for seekers interested in initiation into the Alexandrian tradition of Witchcraft.

In line with traditional practice, our training is offered free of charge. We do not charge for teaching, training, or participation in the coven.

How It Works

If you wish to pursue initiation, the process begins with a structured training period which include book reading, daily exercises, and regular reports.

You will have weekly meetings with one of the coven leaders to discuss reading, exercises, and any questions you have. As long as the answer does not break our oaths, we are happy to share.

This training period is a two-way assessment. We are getting to know each other. We assess whether you are a good fit for the coven and you assess whether the coven fits what you are looking for. Think of it as building a relationship. Either side can decide it is not the right fit, and that is a valid outcome.

The training period lasts anywhere from a couple of months to six months. The pace is yours.

Once initiated, you are a working member of the coven. Training continues from day one: after your first ritual, you begin learning to conduct rituals yourself.

The coven meets online and in person on alternated dates throughout the month. Ritual meetings are in the evenings and last about four hours. We also hold daytime training sessions separate from ritual.

As a member, you will be expected to acquire your own robe, ritual tools, and to cover your share of travel costs when the coven gathers across provinces.

Before You Commit

The North Coven operates on the principle of polarity. You will work with people of different genders.

Our rituals are performed skyclad. Consider this carefully before requesting initiation.

The Alexandrian tradition leans toward ceremonial magic. Our members study Hermetic Kabbalah, planetary magic, and ceremonial theory. You do not need this knowledge upfront, but you need to be willing to engage with it over time.

Before considering initiation, we recommend reading about the Alexandrian tradition and Traditional Witchcraft. Our Reading List is a good place to start. You can also connect with initiates worldwide through the Alexandrian Wicca Seekers and Initiates group on Facebook or the British Traditional Witchcraft channel on Discord.

We encourage you to explore different groups and paths to make sure your decision is well-informed.

Age: You must be 21 years or older.

How to
Request Initiation

If you want to pursue initiation, send us a message through the contact page.

Be specific: tell us that you are requesting initiation into the Alexandrian tradition. This helps us understand where you are in your journey and respond accordingly.

If you're still exploring and not sure whether initiation is the right step, that's completely fine. Our blog has resources on Ottawa's pagan community and other groups in the area where you can connect and learn at your own pace.
